If anyone would like to interpret this dream that I had last night, be my guest. I woke up three times during the course of it.

Hannah's Dream:

Carroll and I were sitting of the fronch porch steps of the house when two men dressed like 1940's mobsters came around the corner. They proceeded to tell us that John had been killed by pirates. Then they left. Carroll became very angry and said that it was my fault and that John's blood would be on my hands if I didn't "go to Wake Christian and start a food fight in the cafeteria."

Not wanting to have John's untimely demise on my concience, I scurried on over the Wake Christian, but rather than starting a food fight, I entered a tiny chamber that was full of flour (yes, I spelled it the right way). The chamber started spinning and I was soon covered in flour.

THEN (and this is the weird part), John shows up at Wake Christian and starts barking out orders. He instructs the students to place me in a ginormous oven and cook me. He wasn't killed by pirates after all!!! faker....

That's when I woke up, or rather a cow mooed and woke me up. I think it was "Gimpy."

Italian Sausage and Potato Soup, a la Carroll and Hannah

Ingredients:

1 pound Jimmy Dean sage spiced breakfast sausage
2 potatoes (you can also use frozen hashbrown potatoes)
1 package frozen spinach
1 quart chicken broth
1 pint heavy whipping cream
2 strips bacon
1/2 large sweet onion
1 tbs minced garlic
1 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper

-Cook and drain sausage, mince to a crumbly consistency. Set aside.

-Mince onion and bacon and sautee in a large soup pot until onions are clear. Add garlic and stir for 1 minute.

-Add chicken broth and crushed red pepper, stirring often. Bring broth to a slow boil.

-Dice potatoes and add to broth. Turn stove on medium setting, leave until potatoes are cooked through.

-Once potatoes are thoroughly cooked, finely chop spinach and add to mixture, stirring often.

-Add sausage to mixture and slowly pour in heavy whipping cream as you are stirring.

-Add salt and pepper to season.

-Bring to Carroll and Hannah for final taste test and approval!!

Medal of run around like you know what you are doing.

It's January now and I have time to breath and post again, so here you go!

The family on Christmas Day. You have no idea how hard it is to get 6 children under the age of 4 to sit still for a time delay picture!! Whew!!

This may look like everyone was having fun, but you don't get the full effect unless you see Philip collapsed on the floor 3 seconds later.

Words cannot express how true these two statements are...

The notorious Christmas Tree. I made this in Kindergarten and I think it's wonderful!!! It's about three times bigger than any other ornament on the tree but I think that's part of what makes it so special!

No, it's not Dave Kuny hanging on my tree. It's David Carson!! My mom won't let anyone else hang this ornament. She has to do it herself every year. The thing itself is made from a hollowed out egg shell so it's very fragile. She doesn't know it, but that's my hand in the picture.

The good 'ol boys from Mayberry! I think Lydia gave this to Dad last year. My parents watch the show every Saturday morning.

Does anyone know where this guy is from??? I do!!

And last but not least, Lucy and Schroder. AKA, Pam and David. Mom was the athlete and Dad was the musician.

The chill in the air made our breath float before us as we crept through the tall grass. Aware of the danger lurking in the woods to our left, my partner and I took cautious step after step hoping that our journey would end without bloodshed. The grinding of teeth sent a wave of electricity up my spine but Rachael, fearing my hesitance, pushed me onward through the foggy night air.

Then it came. A cry like none we've ever heard. I was reminded of my childhood, when the dessert animals used to circle our compound in search of flesh, their sinister eyes gleaming in the wicked moonlight.

The cry sounded again and we knew that our time was precious. Dragons were scarce in this part of the land, but the scattered herd had drawn one out. It was searching for meat, and there we were, in the midst of it's soon to be massacre. But, we continued. Every step was our last, and every breath a silent scream for help.

We reached our destination unharmed, but the sticky heat rising from the herd surrounding us was only a reminder of our mortality. We knew that our task was impossible. We were two, and the load we were to carry was made for five. But, from somewhere inside us came a surge of strength. Maybe it was fear. Maybe it was the refusal to let our tribe down. Maybe it was the thought of our existence ending in the darkness we were entrapped in.

We loaded our arms with the supplies, all too aware of the glistening eyes all around us. My arms felt weak and I knew that if I collapsed, Rachael would be sacrificed to the monster lurking in the trees. We started moving, cautiously at first and then more swiftly.

Then it happened. A deafening cry pierced through the night air, sending a wave of panic amongst the heard. The ground began to shake as the hooves kicked up dirt around us. Panic overcame me and my arms became weak. I felt my breath slipping away into insanity and I knew that it was over, but Rachael sensed my fear and cried for me to run.

And we ran through the black dust that encircled us, our lungs filling and drying out, the shrieks of the dragon vibrating in our heads. We ran until our hearts lunged out before us and we saw the familiar faces of our tribe. We threw ourselves at them, releasing the load we had carried through the stampede and fell to the damp earthen floor of the camp.

All eyes were upon us, waiting for our response. Choking in the dust that would have been our tombstone, Rachael stood before the crowd. Silence filled the camp as she prepared to speak.

"That dang cow licked our chili!!"

I barely do. Sometimes I feel like my life is one big game of Round Robin. I run, run, run and never seem to get anywhere. It makes me think about that Switchfoot song, "This is your life. Are you who you want to be....."

Do I want to work for an eye doctor? Do I want to photograph other people's weddings? Do I want to yell at 17 year old juvenile delinquents 3 days a week? Do want to go to the gym 3 times a week? Do I want to write this blog? Do I want to return phone calls?

Not really.....

But I suppose sometimes the need outweighs the want.

As the weather becomes colder and I find myself curled beside a comfortable fire, I begin to ponder days of yore. A Christmas long ago when I saw things, not through the eyes of a 25 year old devastatingly beautiful woman, but the eyes of a devastatingly beautiful 6 year old. I remember my grandfather sitting me uponst his knee and singing that meliodious old tune "Oh Holy Night." Although my beloved GrandPappy is no longer with us, his memory lives on in this stirring rendition of the beloved hymn.
